Cutting-edge technology is reshaping traditional methods of jewellery design, manufacturing, authentication and traceability, thus playing a pivotal role in enhancing creativity, productivity and trust within the jewellery industry.

Fasti Industriale, an Italian chain machinery manufacturing company, recently introduced the BML machine, which is designed to transform basic chains into unique models through laser welding.

This machine is ideal for creating a variety of chains, including Bismark Curb, Figaro, Venetian, Cable, and Ball, by joining them into a new continuous chain. With the integrated control panel, users have the flexibility to set double-step welding, which is particularly useful for chains with long links.

“The BML offers significant advantages such as eliminating the need for preliminary welding in side-link chains, thanks to simultaneous link cutting during the process,” the company stated.

On the other hand, UK-based laser technology expert Opsydia is introducing its laser inscription system, which supports diamond and precious gemstone traceability and identity; and transparency initiatives; and create a physical link between a specific stone and its grading report, blockchain record or branded jewellery origins.

There are three Opsydia Systems available: Surface ID System (D4000), Sub-Surface ID System (D5000) and a comprehensive combined system (D6000) that integrates both capabilities.

According to the company, these systems place microscopic identifiers on or beneath the surface of diamonds, gemstones and transparent materials without compromising their integrity, unlike conventional surface markings that can be polished away or fraudulently replicated.

Opsydia’s identifiers can take the form of unique serial numbers, brand logos, and QR codes, among others, and are customisable to meet specific needs of clients.
